The Domain Jean – François Thurot Thurot, winegrower and former Mayor of Nuits-Saint-Georges, was founded in 1862. During the 1950’s, due to the absence of successors, the domain was taken over by the Thomas family from

Nuits-Saint-Georges. By developing a very important export activity (to Switzerland, Germany and Asia) during the 1960’s, they acquired the Domain Vasseur along with its prestigious vineyards at that time

(Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru “Les Malconsorts”, Bonnes Mares and Chevalier Montrachet ).

In 2008, after a series of conflict of interests with almost 70 shareholders from both families Thomas , the domain were taken over completely by the Thurot family, with a total restructuring and a major investment of over 10 million euro in order to improve distribution channels, the winemaking process and the whole equipment related to it in Nuits-Saint-Gorges and Meursault. Since 2010 the domains possess both IFS and BRC standards (Global Food Safety Initiative).

Today, Jean – François Thurot spread over 8 hectares from Meursault to Nuits – Saint – Georges . They are distributed throughout Burgundy: Côtes de Nuits and Côtes de Beaune and comprehend a majority of Grand Crus and 1st Crus, planted with the two Burgundy varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. These domains were constituted through time with different family agreements and carefully planned acquisitions.

Some plots of land count among the most famous in Burgundy: Corton Charlemagne, Clos de Vougeot

and Vosne-Romanée 1st Cru “Les Beaumonts”‘ etc…

The appellation Nuits-Saint-Georges 1st Cru Les Saint Georges are on a waiting list at INAO to become Grand Cru. The Institut National des Appellations d’Origine (INAO) is the French organization charged with regulating French agricultural products with Protected Designations of Origin (PDOs). Controlled by the French government, it forms part of the Ministry of Agriculture.

For certain prestigious appelations such as Montrachet, Bâtard Montrachet, Romanée Saint Vivant and Richebourg,

Jean – François Thurot complete their stock through closed contracts and purchases with long-term winegrowers and partners.

In respect of tradition, JF Thurot bring forward: the full expression of “terroir”‘ through a traditional winemaking process and ageing in oak barrels. A structured, full-bodied easy-to-drink Burgundy: pleasant to the eye, soft in the palate, powerful and with a good balance. The very existance of our domain resides on: the constant quest of a better quality and the respect of our great wines with the expression of our soils (terroir) in a traditional ageing process in oak barrels.

We simply refuse to commercialize any appelation that does not comply with the high standards of our domain.
